30/04/02: David Cumming writes: Many years ago (1969-1970) I worked and lived at then Astley Hospital. I find scant and conflicting information on the internet about what has happened to the house and its ground restoration, housing, derelict. I am trying to find Brenda & Vernon Byrne they lived in Culcheth and then leigh - have 2 children Christina and Andrew who will now be in their 30's. they were fantastic friends especially when Heather died. Today would have been Heather's 40th birthday. Also I am wondering how the members of my father's family are? My father John Edwin Jarvis worked at the Nook Pit, Astley. My sister Edwina went to Gin Pit School and died age 5yrs. Dad's brothers were George, Joseph, Daniel Ernest. His sisters were Clara [married name Whittle], Edith Annie [married name Oliver], Nellie [married name Jones], they had no children, Emily [married name Wilkinson] died in the early 50s leaving a young family. We lived in Bolton - Gerald & I married at Tyldesley Parish Church, my father was in the choir. Grandparents Clara and John William Jarvis lived in Nelson St, Tyldesley. In December 1914 my Uncle William Henry Speare from Winnipeg, Canada, Torquay, Devon signed up for the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Winnipeg. His sign up form he has put a Miss Florence May Rogers as his beneficiary her address is The Cottage, Helmshore, NR Manchester, England. At present I know nothing about Florence May Rogers or why my Uncle had her down as his beneficiary instead of his wife. If any one can provide me with any information I would love to hear from them.
